Steve in his own words, tells us that Eclipse Sports Promotions provide the opportunity for our clients to entertain, team build, network with their own clients or staff in a unique sporting environment. We specialise in working with and incorporating “Sporting Legends” into our “Sporting Experience” events. See our website here
What are your main priorities and goals in your role?
To continue the high standards of the events we deliver, to enable our clients to ‘live’ their sporting dreams by creating an experience that will stay with them for a long time while still offering value for money.
What are your biggest challenges?
Continuing to find new clients in the revolving door of business culture, showing them how they can achieve a dynamic experience which they will love.
How do you keep your team/staff motivated?
Provide a professional and enjoyable workplace environment to be comfortable in, support them with personal issues and respect their input to Eclipse.
What are the challenges facing your industry going forward?
The leisure industry is the first to be hit as it is sometimes perceived as excessive spending when the budgets of our clients needs to be tightened, but I would say that is a time when clients should be making more of an effort to maintain their links with their existing clients and look for new.
Are there any major changes you would like to see in your sector?
I think there needs to be regulations involved, at the moment it is far too easy to host an event, their needs to be more guidelines so that the ‘buyer’ is reassured in what they are procuring.
How did your strategy develop in the context of the banking crisis and economic crisis?
We consciously decided to create smaller bespoke events, with the emphasis on more of a close personal relationship between client and sporting legend at the event approach.
The need to keep developing and finding ways to create new and fresh products, continue to work hard and learn to ignite our clients’ interests
How will Brexit affect you, or have you started to feel the effects already?
This is a question that most people are uncertain about….let us wait and see, but during this climate of uncertainty I see no personal effect on Eclipse, in fact the reverse.
Companies may need to boost staff morale and encourage team bonding – no better way than to go white water rafting with an Olympic Champion to do this!
How do you define success and what drives you to succeed?
Being happy, healthy and motivated, waking up every morning a looking forward to whatever the working day brings and being able to go off for the day to watch any sport I want!
After an event, when people are so appreciative and willingly support our website and social media posts with praise and supportive comments.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given, or would give, in business?
People buy from people, nice people know nice people, there is not always safety in numbers and it is important to look for new business relevant to yours in the right places, as they say ‘fish’ in the right pool
What have been your highlights in business over the past year?
A few, firstly the continued success of all of our events throughout the year, the thrill of hosting our cricket legends ‘World Cup’ on the Nursery Ground at Lords with ex internationals on the day before England began their quest to win the actual World Cup and seeing our ‘Eclipse Sports Racing Club’ horse Napping win twice this Summer for our members/clients was amazing.
What’s next for your company?
More events, more sporting legends, more fun!!!
What opportunities or plans for growth do you see in 2020?
It an Olympic year, so lots of diverse events where clients and their guests can take part in Olympic style events such as Cycling, Rowing, Beach Volleyball and Basketball to name a few, where they can meet and compete with GB Gold medalists from past games.
I think success of this year’s cricket World Cup will enhance interest along with the UEFA European Championships being held in the latter stages in the country will give us the opportunity to develop related ideas for us all to enjoy.
Disabled sports – promote this by employing disabled sportsmen and women at our events.
Where do you want your business/brand to be this time next year?
We will be in our 16th year in 2019 and I think it is important to consolidate where you are and re-evaluate given the current economic situation.
Have a clear strategic plan of what is required to do to maintain this whilst at the same time continuing to establish ‘Eclipse Sports Promotions’ as the go to respected brand capable of achieving our clients goals in the sporting experience arena.
